2017 Global South Conference

In 2017, the Council for International Relations and International Law hosted the Global South Conference at the National Law School of India, University. The Conference was our attempt to initiate a dialogue on theories of international relations from the perspective of the oft-ignored Global South. Our objective was to evolve a sound theorization on issues of the Global South as a truly global, inclusive, and non-hegemonic process.

We had the privilege of witnessing excellent presentations by eminent personalities including Mr. Jairam Ramesh, former Minister of State for Environment and Forests; Dr. Siddharth Mallavarapu, Professor at the Department of International Relations and Governance Studies at Shiv Nadar University, and Prof. Rajeev Gowda, Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka. The presentations were followed by a lively discussion with student participants from NLSIU.

The Council for International Relations and International Law organised the 9th edition of the National Law School of India University Model United Nations Competition (NLSMUN), which saw participation from approximately a hundred students across Bangalore. We had the privilege of hosting (Retd.) Ambassador Bhaswati Mukherjee, former Permanent Representative of India to the Untied Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and former Indian ambassador to the Netherlands, as the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony. Delegates had the unique opportunity to interact with Ms. Mukherjee and benefit from her experience with the inner workings of the UN.
